Reasons to Scan:
- More effective feed planning.
- Plan extra feed for multiple birth carriers.
- Avoid overweight single lambs.
- Identify later lambing ewes.
- Send dry stock off to the meat processing plant and maximise feed / income.
Key Points
- 12 hours off grass.
- Hay / silage / swedes need to be at least 15 hours off.
- Best results days after rams goes into flock:
- Ram removal minimum 35 days to identify drys.
- 70-80 days triplets.
- 80-90 days twins / singles.
On Farm Facilities Required
- Power 240 volts. (Generator / Mains)
- Covered yards preferred.
- Open yards with protection from wet for scanner operation.
- Plus 2-3 extra labour units.

- Ewes need to be 15-20 hours off bulk feed. (Hay, Silage, Swedes etc)
- Best results 35 - 110 days after ram goes into flock.
